Reminders for Bills, Repayments and Seasonal Expenses

Forgotten bills have the potential to blow your budget.

But there are often lots of other things you want to make sure don’t get forgotten. This top tip tells you how to avoid forgetting, using Budgets Get Real’s in-built reminder system.

There are two ways that you can set reminders in Budgets Get Real. You can set Budget Reminders and Reminders for individual transactions.

Reminders for Individual Transactions -

These are placed directly on a transaction in the Transaction Register. You can set reminders to remind after a particular date, warranty reminders, mark the transaction as a Disputed Transaction, or just make extra notes.

Warranty reminders are useful for marking when an item’s warranty is due to run out. This way, if you have any problems with the item, you can deal with them in-warranty.

Disputed transaction reminders are a good way to make sure that you don’t forget to follow up on an overcharging, undue fees, fraudulent or other transaction.

TO SET A TRANSACTION REMINDER -
Click in the column next to the Name of a transaction. From here you can set a reminder, or just some extra notes, for that transaction. Reminders can only be set on Named transactions.

All reminders, at or past their remind date, show in the Operation Monitor until canceled.

Budget Reminders -

You can use Budget Reminders to budget for regular bills, Buy Now Pay Later repayment plans, and for seasonal expenses such as Christmas presents or pool maintenance. You can even use them to remember birthdays and anniversaries.

There is a lot of flexibility in the system that allows you to accommodate irregular costs and one-off purchases as well.

Reminders are set when you add or edit a budget item. You can set a budget item via the Set and Maintain menus (Budgets option) or via the Actuals vs Budgets report.

If you want to set a reminder, nominate the number of days before that budget item falls due that you’d like to be reminded. For items that repeat periodically e.g. rates or insurances you will be reminded before each bill is due.

All upcoming and overdue reminders show in Budgets Get Real’s Operation Monitor (Monitor > Operation)

You can update your reminders at any time. When you do this you can choose to change ALL of your reminders (past and present) or SPLIT the series, so that you can update all future reminders and keep your previous data intact. This is useful for keeping your old information accurate for budget comparisons etc.
